Overview
The King of All Cosmos first rolled into the hearts of gamers everywhere in 2004 with Katamari Damacy. During its time, Damacy was praised for its originality, simplicity, sense of humor, and artistic direction. But most of all, Namco was praised for having the courage to bring such an obscure project to the North American market.

Story Spoilers May Follow
The King of All Cosmos has 'accidentally' destroyed all of the stars in the sky. To resolve the problem, he sends the Prince (his son) to a strange planet called "Earth" in hopes of finding things to make stars with. Of course, creating a star requires a specific process, and that requires a "katamari" - a ball from the heavens that instantly sticks to anything smaller than itself. The Prince rolls the katamari around the Earth, gradually increasing its size, and gives it to the King once it is deemed big enough to become a star. It is then lifted into space by the "Royal Rainbow" where the King himself turns it into a celestial body. The King sends the prince on multiple missions to recreate stars, constellations, and eventually the moon.

As the Prince successfully creates new katamaris, a new tale unfolds surrounding a family on Earth and how the prince's work affects them. The Hoshino family travels to the space center to watch their father, Tomio, fly to the moon. Along the way, the son of the family sees various strange phenemona around him, including the King of All Cosmos himself, but his mother dismisses the claims as being part of his imagination. Tomio Hoshino's mission is eventually cancelled because the moon had been destroyed in the King's drunken rage. But all is not lost: when the Prince finally creates the katamari to make the moon, he rolls up the Hoshino family, and they all make it to the moon in the end.
