Overview
After the surprise success of Katamari Damacy, Namco struck again with We ♥ Katamari. Although it didn't bring much of anything new to the series, it expanded the scope of the original game by adding bigger levels, more things to pick up, and a much higher production value. Much like the first game, We ♥ Katamari follows two storylines that reveal themselves as the player progresses.

Story Spoilers May Follow
After the end of Katamari Damacy, the King of All Cosmos gained millions of fans on Earth. Never one to ignore praise, the King decides to take requests from his fans and fufill them by sending his son, the Prince, to do all the work. The Prince recruits his cousins along the way, and together, they return to Earth rolling everything into katamaris. When it's all over, the game reveals to the player that he or she loves Katamari too.

Where the first game told the story of the Hoshino family, We ♥ Katamari tells a narrative of the King's childhood throughout cutscenes that are shown after the player completes various levels. Before he was king, the King of All Cosmos-to-be lived on a lush planet with his father, the Emperor of All Cosmos, referred to as "Papa." Papa was very hard on the young and future King, always pushing him to be the best much like the King now does to the Prince. When the young King earns second place in a boxing tournament, Papa throws his trophy into the river and scorns him. Dismayed, the young King runs away from home. He gets into a fight with a gang and loses his pompadour hair to one of their knives. Just when all is going wrong, he meets the future Queen of All Cosmos, who is holding a half-eaten bread loaf. The young King places the salvaged tip of his hair onto the end of her bread, creating a heart-shaped breadadour thing, and their love is set in stone from that point on.
The young King, now slightly older, encounters his Papa while on a date with the future Queen. When Papa disapproves of the Queen, the King is unable to control his anger and knocks him to the ground. Papa retreats to his castle. The young King follows and is shocked to find his Papa admiring the second place trophy he thought was lost in the river. Realizing that he is appreciated, he runs to his father and begs for his forgiveness. Life seems to be perfect for the King, the Queen, and Papa as they enjoy a picnic in a later scene, but suddenly Papa chokes and falls to the ground. Although he isn't dead, the Emperor is too sick to continue his role. He crowns the King of All Cosmos as...well, the King of All Cosmos, and the King goes on to marry the Queen. Years later, the King is shown pacing in a waiting room, when suddenly a nurse emerges and hands the King his son, the Prince.
